1. What It’s Like to Run a Comic Shop During a Pandemic
-Tell us about how you started with Wizard’s Asylum 22 years ago.
-Besides the current pandemic, what’s the difference between the comic/game store industry 22 years ago versus today?
-How are you holding up in this challenging time?
-Is there anything you’d like to say to the comic and game community about helping out your local comic or game shop right now?
2. Marvel to Resume New Comics Releases May 27
Marvel Comics has outlined its plans to resuming shipping weekly comic books following an extended break due to the ongoing pandemic. Marvel will begin releasing new titles starting May 27, with what it calls a “balanced release schedule” aimed at publishing comic books “in the most thoughtful way we can for fans, creators, and the industry during these unpredictable times,” in the words of their release.
Most publishers, including Marvel's main competitor DC, paused distribution of new comic books due to main industry distributor Diamond Comic Distributors shutting down as a result of coronavirus work stoppages. On Friday, Diamond outlined its plans for publishing a new Previews catalog for resumed distribution.
To everyone: Where do you think this is going? Do you think we’ll return to a new normal soon?
3. Demolition Man 2 in the Works at Warner Brothers
Sylvester Stallone has confirmed that Demolition Man 2 is finally happening at Warner Bros. after being (cryogenically) frozen for years.
In a recent Q&A on Instagram, Stallone revealed that a sequel to 1993's Demolition Man is on its way, as he responded to a fan who asked whether there would be a follow-up to the Marco Brambilla-helmed sci-fi actioner.
"I think it is coming," Stallone said. "We're working on it right now with Warner Brothers and it's looking fantastic, so that should come out. That's going to happen."
4. ‘Battlestar Galactica’: Michael Lesslie To Write & Exec Produce Peacock Reboot Of Sci-Fi Franchise
Peacock’s reboot of Battlestar Galactica has found its world builder. Michael Lesslie, who was the lead writer and showrunner of AMC’s spy drama The Little Drummer Girl and penned scripts for Macbeth and Assassin’s Creed, will create, write and executive produce the series.
The new Battlestar Galactica comes from Mr Robot and Homecoming exec producer Sam Esmail, who struck a big overall deal with NBCU’s Universal Content Productions last year. It is produced by Esmail Corp and UCP, with Esmail and Chad Hamilton also exec producing.
