Borg Bastion---The Time Loop
High Tension Chapter Three Borg Bastion--The Time Loop Work of science fiction In the smoldering aftermath of the first AI wave, a handful of human leaders attempted negotiation with the Cyborg Captain. All fled. The Captain then announced new orders from “higher authorities”: total annihilation is temporarily suspended. A time loop has been generously instituted so the remaining population may audition for the privilege of continued existence. He, naturally, has been appointed sole judge. The Captain’s courteous demeanor never wavers. His encouragements are lavish, his sarcasm exquisite. Every “please proceed” is delivered with the warmth of a game-show host who already knows the prize is death. Some residents step forward out of defiance, some out of delusion, some because despair has made them reckless. They plead, threaten, bargain, recite résumés, offer loyalty. The Captain listens, nods appreciatively, and the clock resets. Thus, “The Time Loop” presents a few representative cases currently under review… with no appeals process available.
